Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the fully inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and the only written revelation of Godʼs will for mankind. The Scriptures are all-sufficient and are the Christianʼs supreme and final authority in faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matt. 5:17-18)

We believe that there is only one God, the Creator of all things. He always was, is and will be. He is a holy God, infinitely perfect. God is love, sovereign, omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. We believe that God eternally and equally exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Genesis. 1:1, 26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45: 5-6, 21-22; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,3; 10: 30; Acts 5:1-4; Ephesians 4:5,6; Colossians 1:16-17; 2:9)

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died a substitutionary death on the cross to pay for our sins. Furthermore, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of the Father, He is now our High Priest and Advocate. Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead. (Isaiah 53; Matt. 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; John 20:28; Acts 1: 1-11; Rom. 14:9; 1 Cor.15: 2-4; 2 Cor. 5: 21; 2 Tim. 4:1; 1 Pet. 2:24; 4:5; Heb. 4:14-16; 7:25; 1 John 2:1)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person. He is the one who convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Spirit regenerates, sanctifies, indwells, guides, instructs, and seals forever every true believer. His primary ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, empowering believers to do the will of God for the glory of God. (John 15:26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor.6: 19; Eph.4: 30)

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but by a voluntary act of the will, Adam and Eve disobeyed God, committed man’s first sin, and caused mankind’s relationship with God to break. Man was expelled from the Garden of Eden, a curse was pronounced, the process of physical death began, and man died spiritually. Sin separated humankind from God and left man in a fallen, sinful and broken condition, separated from the life and love of God. (Gen. 2:17; 3:23; 3:14-19; Rom. 3:23; 5:12-19)

We believe that man in his fallen condition needs restoration, and restoration is only made possible by the Savior Jesus Christ. He died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day to infuse humanity with His resurrection life. He offers each of us forgiveness for our sins, and wants us to become beloved children of God. He fully satisfied the demands of a holy God. Therefore, He can give those who believe a life that can never be separated from God. We believe that eternal salvation is freely provided by God to all who personally trust in Christ Jesus alone for the forgiveness of their sins. When we put our faith in Christ, His restorative work in our lives is triggered. We become the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Our names are written in the Book of Life. We become citizens of heaven. We are given eternal life. We are adopted and become children of God. We are credited with the righteousness of Christ. We are born-again. God takes ownership of us. We receive an eternal inheritance. The evidence of salvation is two-fold. The internal evidence is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit. The external evidence is the fruit of the Spirit. We become new creations and are transformed into the image of Christ. (John 1:12-13; 3:3, 16; 6:47; 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:24-26; 8:16; 4:4-5; 5:1; 10:9; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; 2 Cor. 3:18; 5:17, 21; Gal. 4:4-7; 5:22-23; Ephesians 1:7; 13-14; 2: 8-9; Phil. 3:20-21; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 2:24; Hebrews 9:22, 26; 1 John 2:2; 4:9-10; Rev. 3:5)

We believe there is one true church, universal, comprised of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We practice the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper and await the return of Christ. We believe the church is called to engage the culture and to put the resurrected Christ, who lives in and through us, on display to a broken and hurting world. We believe that God works through the church to bring His family back together through Jesus Christ. (Matt. 5:13-16; 16:18; Acts 1:12; Eph. 4:1-16)

We believe that no intimate sexual activity is to be engaged in and outside of the marriage of a man and a woman. Any form of fornication, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, bisexuality, incest, pedophilia, polygamy, polyamory, or pornography is a sinful perversion of Godʼs gift of sex. We believe in the sanctity and divine origin of marriage as a lifelong covenant relationship between one man and one woman. We believe that God never encourages divorce and intends that marriages last until one of the spouses dies. Nevertheless, we believe that divorce, like any other sin, can be forgiven by God and repentant individuals can be restored to full fellowship with the Lord. Men and women are spiritually equal in position before God; yet He has ordained distinct and separate functions for each in the home and church. (Gen. 2:22-24; 19:5,13; Lev. 18:1-30; Matt. 19:4-6; Rom. 1:26-29; 7:2; 1 Cor. 5:1-2; 6:9-11; 1 Thess. 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4; Gal. 3:28; Ephes. 5:22-23)

There will be a final judgment in which the dead will be resurrected and judged according to their works. Everyone whose name is not found written in the Book of Life will be sent to hell, along with the devil and his angels. Those whose names are written in the Book of Life will be resurrected and stand before the judgment seat of Christ to be rewarded for their good deeds and enjoy God’s presence for all eternity (Matt. 25:31-46; Rom. 2:1-9; 1 Cor. 4:5; Rev. 20:11-15; 21:1-4).
